I work in a high school setting, so it might depend on how old your students are. At the end of each school year, I turn in a list of missing book titles along with the book's replacement cost to our finance secretary. She adds the replacement cost to the student's account. Then I don't worry about it anymore. She collects the money and adds it to the library's account. If a student happens to find and return a book that has been marked lost, I simply put it back in my system and send the student to the finance office with a receipt so the charge can be deleted from his/her account.

If a graduating student doesn't clear their account they can't walk in graduation so it's a good motivation for them to find the book or pay the fee.

Subject: Richie’s Picks: HERE, GEORGE!

*Richie’s Picks: HERE, GEORGE! (Board Book) by Sandra Boynton and George
Booth, ill., Little Simon, May 2018, 32p., ISBN: 978-1-5344-2964-2“All we
need is music, sweet music. There’ll be music everywhere. There’ll be
swinging and swaying and records playingDancing in the street.”-- Marvin
Gaye, William ‘Mickey’ Stevenson, and Ivy Jo Hunter (1964)There are
generations of stories and jokes about what the kids or the pets do while
the parents are away. Sandra Boynton’s new board book HERE, GEORGE! is a
delightful example.George is a big, old dog who, despite the encouragement
of the human parents and child, just sits around all day. But, then, when
the humans go away…“George is feeling a little glum. He lies down. He
closes his eyes.Outside, some wild music begins to play.George opens his
eyes. He likes music. Now George is sitting. Now George is standing. Now
George is dancing. And dancing. And dancing.Until he can dance no
longer.”Of course, when the humans return, George, again, does not
move...except for his happy tail.I love the illustrations by veteran New
Yorker cartoonist George Booth. George the dog has such a blissful look on
his face as he’s dancing. Then, when “he can dance no longer,” George looks
absolutely ready to pass out, lying on his back, his tongue hanging out,
and his eyes staring blankly. This one’s a total crack-up.Richie Partington,

Dear Colleagues

I trust you are all well? Here is my latest collection of recent clips
which might be of interest to your Science teachers. Just shout if you want
this in an attractive weekly format.

Enjoy, Andrew

The coldest materials in the world aren’t in Antarctica or at the top of
Mount Everest. They’re in physics labs: clouds of gases held just fractions
of a degree above absolute zero. Lina Marieth Hoyos explains how
temperatures this low give scientists a window into the inner workings of
matter, and allow engineers to build incredibly sensitive instruments that
tell us more about the universe.

suffer from altitude sickness and frequent electrical blackouts would be
the norm!

Subject: Long term overdue books

Collective Brain:

We are have some discussions about how to deal with the issue of students
who are returning to school with a lost book still on their account from
the previous year.

Could you share with me about your policy for this? (I.e. Are they
required to pay for it/replace it, have their schedule held until it is
paid for/replaced, work off the cost, etc.)

 I will post a hit,

Brian

Subject: Librarian job posting

Hi,

I am a SLMS in a well-regarded district in Union County, NJ. We have a full-time, tenure track position at one of our elementary schools and it has not been filled in the two months since it has been posted. Could you post this to the lm_net listserv? My district's director of human resources said I could share this info with whomever I thought could be of assistance.

Thank you,
Beth
