A trial court in the United States has dismissed the antitrust portion of a lawsuit launched by Verisign against the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. Among other things, the domain name giant had claimed that ICANN violated contract and antitrust law in reacting to several Verisign initiatives, such as the heavily-criticized Sitefinder online redirection system. Verisign has until June 7 2004 to file papers to revive its antitrust claim, and the other portions of its lawsuit (including the contract law claims) are still alive.
