Thank you.
I suppose I should introduce myself.
I am Marc Perkel. I'm the founder of the Church of Reality - a religion
based on believing in everything that's real. Our slogan, "If it's real,
we believe in it!" However our knowledge of reality is limited so the
Church of Reality is really about the pursuit of the understanding of
reality by humans. Our mission is a religious dedication to continually
increase our understanding of reality from generation to generation.
In order to do that humanity needs to continue to evolve forward and we
need to continue to develop the tools that allow knowledge to be stored
and shared. Thousands of years ago humans developed language that
allowed us to communicate and allowed complex ideas to be passed from
individual to individual. This formed a network of information that
allowed our minds to work together building a vast amount of shared
knowledge which we call the "Tree of Knowledge" which is the sum total
of human understanding.
As we evolved we developed writing which vastly expanded our ability to
transfer and share knowledge. Information could be communicated between
individuals in different places and different times. It also allowed
information to be more accurately stored than in the biological minds of
individuals. The invention of the printing press vastly expanded this
ability to communicate and store information. Then we invented
photography, the telephone, radio, television, and now .... the Internet.
The Internet is a sacred shrine in the Church of Reality in that it has
allowed us to communicate information on a level never before achieved.
The Internet represents a significant advancement in the evolution of
humanity. We are now evolving through our common knowledge more that
physical evolution. Biologically we have changed little in the last 300
years. But we can now fly, talk to people across that world, taste the
water on Mars, and feel the heat of the creation of the universe.
So - we call the Internet the "Sacred Network" or "Golden Router"
because it is the means that allows us to fulfill our purpose of
exploring reality as it really is. We have a religious interest in
preserving the Internet as a free and unrestricted tool of humanity and
a common asset for our survival just as our common air and water is on
this planet. The Internet must be a tool that serves humanity as opposed
to a tool that oppresses it as in an electronic dark ages where
knowledge is restricted and oppressors use it to rule the oppressed.
So - that basically sums up our interest in the Internet. If any of you
are interested in more information about the Church of Reality the web
