Did the board member say why? As members living
in Kenya have commented, the demonstration seems
to have been specific, the cause now gone.
Since heard the UN hasn't changed the status of its security alert.
For the last day or so the big concern had been
an unofficial terrorist song posted on a website
associated with the the Somali based al-Shebab.
The song, cappella apparently, told of attacking
Kenya and all the usual violent stuff (one news
report also said they'd be marching on Rome...
Nairobi then Rome, bizarre user generated
content, Web 2.0 and all that :-) )
But good news is the New York Times/Reuters say
al-Shebab deny planning any such attack, the
recording was a fake
<http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2010/01/22/world/international-uk-kenya-somalia.html>
So one has to hope ICANN haven't been feeding
board members concern about the song threat.
Please let the board member know.
Kenya's had terrorist attacks, Nairobi US Embassy
bombing in 1998 when hundreds of people were
killed and a 2002 bombing in Mombasa. Since then
Kenya's worked closely with the US on terrorism,
so have to hope the intelligence will be as good
as it can be.
Best,
Adam
