Hi,
I agree with Avri, besides the technical challenges, it was great to be able
to participate remotely at the ISOC-NY event, thanks to the Chapter
for the initiative and for going the extra mile to enable others to participate.
I totally agree with the role ICANN staff needs to play, and I'd hope that
once and for all we stop with the perception that if we make any comments
that may be considered criticism, they don't mean or are intended to
diminish the tremendous work the staff do or tag them as incompetent
or anything like that, and make it clear that it's never personal.
While I'm very critic of the comments and attitude that for example
Kieren shows most of the time, like being on the defensive, or a negative
or ironic comment I make about what ICANN did, do, or plans to do, I really
appreciate his work and contribution to enable participation, but he will
play a much better role if he steps back a little bit and let people discuss
and generate the dialog, even if it's the same old cry.
Some issues are not very easy to handle, we are a multicultural,
multilingual and complex soup of people, ideas, interests, etc., but I'm a
firm believer that if we are able to continue the dialog, make an extra
effort to understand each other positions and frustrations we'll start
finding common agreement on many issues and reach consensus
about how to move forward.
Thanks again ISOC-NY and Regards
Jorge
