Being a "free American" I'm concerned about the day when I might be
required to lie to you. (Assuming that day hasn't already come.) As you
all know, the PRISM companies are all forced to lie. Changing hats. many
of you know I also run a small spam filtering company and at any time I
could get an BSA letter that would require me to fork off a copy of
every good email I process to the NSA. So I wrote up this warning to my
customers about considering if I'm compromised.

I have to tell them that my word can't be trusted and that I might be
required to lie. Similarly the US has turned ICANN into liars because if
we asked ICANN if they have been compromised the answer would be NO.
Thus what they say has no information.

The commercial stakeholders are affected as well. I'm going to assume
that none of these companies like the idea of the NSA installing a back
door into the heart if their business. And other governments (known to
us Americans as "foreigners") would rather not have the US controlling
their countiy's TLDs. And US government control isn't going to make the
registrars and registries happy.

I'm smelling the opportunity to bring the stakeholders together into a
coalition to resist the real or imagined takeover of ICANN. We have an
opportunity to bring everyone together on the same page what it comes to
liberty issues.

Anyone else see opportunity here?
