All,
After a little under a month of back-and-forth discussion since the
pending sale of the PIR .org registry was first made public my own
views, for what they are worth, boil down to one simple suggestion:
Encourage all the DNS stakeholder community including NCSG, the ICANN
Board, ISOC Chapters, ngo's, contract and non-contract ICANN
constituencies, GAC, IGF, etc. to:
Ask Ethos Capital to incorporate PIR as a Benefit Corporation.
That would effectively bind Ethos Capital to honor the promises it is
making, and would so bind any subsequent PIR registry owners.
Of course, one should never discount the ability of a clever band of
lawyers to "unbind" that result. But such would not occur without a
public fight, based on the grounds that they are taking an important
Benefit Corporation private.
