Last year there were more positions to be filled (8, now, I think just
3) and since it was the first time the rules/processes had to be
invented. This meant it took a lot of time. I am unable to give a
precise number of hours. A guess: 200.

How much time it takes this year, will depend on the number of
applications. As a member of the NomCom you obviously have to read the
applications. The research into the backgrounds of the applicants was
last year done by subgroups of the NomCom.

Meetings were last year by weekly teleconferences and in person for
two days in Boston.

I do not regret that I participated, not at all. It is a lonely job
though, as all has to be done confidentialy. You cannot ask advise to
outsiders, let alone discuss things on a mailing list.
