Hi,

within the WGIG (2004) there was a long debate about the role of the technical and academic community as a special stakeholder group under the WSIS IG definition. The outcome was that on the one hand, this community was seen as a stakeholder group in itself, but rather different from the other three stakeholders. It was recognized that in particular the "academic" community has its natural home in the civil society, but that members of the academic community are also working as advisers to governments and consultants to the private sector.

Not true and a calumny on the many academics who still hold to their
principles of speaking truth to power. I suggest you owe those of us who
argue passionately against the commercialisation of HE, and against
commercial interests in many other areas, an apology. Milton's tireless
efforts over the entire existence of ICANN and his published work, including
two major works analysing the malign influence of commercial actors (and
others) on ICANN policies ("Ruling the Root" and "Networks and States") speak
for themselves. KK's efforts also demonstrate a clear commitment to advancing
the concerns of the non-commercial community.

This descends to the level of name-calling and is IMHO inappropriate here.
