I think we are ignoring what for me is the most important point in this affair. The fact that governments spy is a given. While it is important that civil society ensures there is oversight I don't think we will stop governments from spying. For me the far more important revelation from Snowden is the fact that the US government, with help from my government - Canada, has actively suborned the multistakeholder process to alter the protocols used everyday on the Internet to make them susceptible to attack. That is unacceptable.
