Subject: Varian 720-ES plasma ignition
We've recently purchased a second hand Varian 720-ES. Our initial attempts at producing a reproducible calibration were so poor that we had the machine serviced. It received a clean bill of health though we did notice that at one point during the service the plasma went out but the engineer simply re-lit it. Since then we have still had bad results and have observed a flickering plasma from time to time. Recently the plasma either does not ignite or, if it does it, it stays alight for a few seconds then goes out. The various error messages are asynchronous error F60304 – the torch ignition has failed, asynchronous error F1255 – RF failure and internal error F1245 – plasma has gone out. Every troubleshooting step in help has been carried out yet there is still a problem with the plasma not igniting or extinguishing soon after ingition. We suspect the RF generator may be faulty. Has anyone got any other ideas?
