We still have an Agilent 7500ce in the lab and still have a service contract. I would say if you are acquiring this refurbished unit from another lab, getting a service contract is definitely a good idea. However, we are told that Agilent is trying to phase out the 7500 series. But as long as they are still selling us service contracts, we are not worry (as for now). But three more years down the road is hard to say. If I were you, I would prepare to learn to fix the instrument on my own for the future. And get your management prepare for the cost of parts and service visits. Those can get quite expensive without a service contract. In recent years, with service contracts, we replaced the chiller, the torch box, the quadrupole, the RF generator, and the power supply (pretty much the whole instrument). Those paid for the contracts......

Subject: [EXTERNAL]ICP-MS Equipment
I am part of a small laboratory. We are looking to add ICP-MS as one of our capabilities.
Currently, we do a small volume of testing (~200 samples per year).
I am looking at refurbished units, including a Agilent 7500cs unit from GenTech. I do not have experience with ICP-MS at all, so I am looking to collect information to see if this is actually a reasonable option.
Does anyone (US-based) else currently have an Agilent 7500 unit that is in operation and still have a service contract? Are there service providers that will still serve this unit? I am in the northeast in DE. The other concern is availability of parts... How concerned should I be about this?
Any other information that you all can provide would be EXTREMELY appreciated. I've been working on building a case for this for a long while, and we have some future costs that might serve to justify acquisition.
Thank you again!
