Analytical Chemist / Geochemist, Department of Mineralogy
Starting at: £20,122 - £31,315 pa inc, dependent upon qualifications and
experience.

Joining our team of scientists, you will help maintain and develop our
mainly inorganic analytical chemistry/geochemistry facilities. The
Analytical Chemistry Facilities at The Natural History Museum house a wise
range of state-of-the-art instrumentation including ICP-AES, quadrupole and
multicollector based ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS, GFAAS, ion chromatograph, FTIR and
CHN analyser. Scientists in the Facility supply chemical analyses of a
wide range of mainly inorganic materials from the earth, environmental and
biological sciences in support of the Museum's inter-disciplinary research
themes and consultancy work. In addition to analytical work and instrument
development, scientists in the Facility provide training for postgraduate
students and visiting researchers.

You will have a degree or equivalent in Geology, Geochemistry, Chemistry,
Environmental Science or similar relevant subject area. You will be
familiar with a range of classical and instrumental analytical techniques,
and will have experience in maintaining and developing complex
instrumentation and for solving analytical problems. You will have some
years' experience as an analytical chemist or geochemist, analysing samples
from a range of inorganic materials and applications. You will be expected
to assist and advise scientists of differing skills and to provide training
in analytical procedures at several levels. You will have excellent
interpersonal, planning and organisational skills, tenacity and creativity.
