I am back in the lab and ready to help with your problem. I am a little confused whether it is with your turbo pump or with the rotary (backing) pump. As far as I know, the turbo controller does not affect rotary pump operation; the rotary pumps are switched on and off by electronically controlled outlets on the back of the ICP-MS. If there is a problem with the rotary pump I probably cannot help you because I don't have spares for that. However, a problem with a rotary pump often involves either seals or bearings and you can often purchase refurbishing kits from the manufacturer to fix this yourself. This is a much cheaper option than buying a new pump and I have done this myself in the past. If you are reasonably handy and not afraid to get some oil on your (gloved) hands, it is pretty straightforward. Did you check if any of the rotary pump breakers behind the ICP-MS front panel were tripped by chance?
If you find that the problem is indeed with either of the turbo pumps or with their controller units, I am your man. Let me know what parts need be replaced and give me instructions on what to send and where, and I can start working on a care package.
Happy New Year to you and everyone, Johan.
