I am currently looking for a natural sulfide standard (ideally
pyrrhotite composition) for our LA-ICP-MS laboratory. The elements of
interest are the PGE's, FRTE's (first row transitional elements) and
the REE's. I already checked at NIST (USA), IRMM (Belgium), USGS (USA)
and there is nothing available to purchase. However, I may have found
a potential material at the NRCAN-CANMET Reference Materials Center
(Canada; http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/mets/ccrmp/rts-1.htm) which is
described as a Sulphide Tailings Sample (RTS-4; pyrrhotite concentrated
and sieved at 74 um).
My questions are:
1) Does anybody have any experience with this RTS-4 material for
2) Are natural sulfide minerals are homogeneous in general? If YES
then at which space resolution (mm, um)?
3) Any better ideas...will be very appreciate.
If the answers are negative then I believe the only option is to make
Thank you very much in advance,
