Giving a single operator renewal conditions that allow it to manage these domains in perpetuity is hardly in the public's best interest -- even Bell Telephone was busted up into the smaller Baby Bells when it became evident that such market dominance was not in the public interest. Current ICANN contracts are written with clauses that allow for termination only in the event of an uncured breach.
