Thank you for all your comments... I actually had meant to discuss with NCSG-EC first but pressed the wrong button!.. but no harm nor offense done, I hope...
The issue I see is the desirability of ad-hoc shifting of list serving, email list management and archiving functions from server to server as the leadership changes - Avri, Milton, Robin for instance all have used their "home" servers for all kinds of good reasons invoked here by some of you, mainly ease and familiarity of operations for the incumbents.
I do hope that censure by ICANN was never a factor... but please share anecdotal evidence if that has ever been the case.
It seems to me that we could think of a more robust and permanent solution not dependant on the digital resources of the successive leaders' organizations. Also, if the leaders emerged from the individual side of NCUC, what would they do and would that perhaps refrain them from contemplating running for leadership positions? More important to me is the administrative load this represents for volunteer Executives whose time and skills are way better used on policy development, strategizing, outreach and management of the SG for instance. I believe this may become even more important a factor as ICANN outreach grows globally and internationally and ICANN becomes much more amenable to not only providing digital resources but also related technical and administrative support

Evan says there's been no issues with ALAC lists but I've heard differently at different points of message being removed etc. So I guess there was an desire to ensure independence, and these folks stepped up. When you have a minute, can you please tell me why we have NCSG mailing lists on
ipjustice.org and
syr.edu servers and not on ICANN servers? I am being asked by new NPOC colleagues and I do not know the answer.
