I am not saying it is an American company - it was the minister who did. And yet, it is an American company. It doesn't just "happen" to be registered there. It is established under American laws and does not have any legal status regarding its constitution that would make it less American or not-American.

ICANN is not an "American company," it is an international non-profit corporation that happens to be registered in the state of California with main HQ's there.

You may call it a media circus, but, indeed, this is sparking a more active discussion towards an international body to substitute ICANN due its status as an American company.
