DeeDee, you read my mind. Owning what may become the largest database of individuals in the world...suggests certain economic possibilities long term.
does ICANN see some aspect of access to this data as an additional revenue stream for ICANN?On Tue, Aug 6, 2013 at 11:07 AM, Kathy Kleiman <[log in to unmask]> wrote:
+1 Rudi!
All, it was a very interesting call. The bottom line is that if we don't want all data, all validated, available to anyone within a huge range of content purposes, in a big centralized database, we have to do something.
Best,
Kathy

Just came back from Berlin, I jumped immediately on my laptop and connected to the call. This type of call needs another context as we know most of the intervenants are native English speakers and forget non-native are on the call. My concern is strait forward : shouldn't the end-user being the one deciding what is made publicly available and at the other hand : is it ICANN's mandate to step into the validation of personal data usage ?
My quick impression

Hello,
NPOC already met with the EWG in Durban and expressed its concerns about specific aspects. But maybe some of our members will participate to the call. Personally, I will attend the Thick Whois WG weekly call scheduled right now at the same time as the EWG one.
Good luck with the call!

Sent from my iPadCall starts in 15 minutes with EWG. All are encouraged to join.

Reminder: Call set for Tuesday 6 August 2013 at 14:00 - 15:00 UTC.
NCSG members are invited to meet with members of ICANN's Expert Working Group (EWG) on Directory Services (aka whois) to discuss the group's work including its final report to the board. This is the group ICANN staff pulled together to "solve" the whois problem. All NCSG members are welcome and encouraged to participate in the call and ask questions of the EWG members and give them your comments on the report. So please read the report and participate in the call. Call details are below. Thank you! - Robin
