Hi

Sorry to be slow to respond to this thread

If so, someone in my ancestral line must have lost all the gold doubloons gambling or whatever. Both sides of my family washed onto US shores pretty penniless.

Anyway, thanks folks for the expressions of support, I would indeed like to rep NCSG on the CCWIG, having sunk time into its gestation and believing we need a loud voice as a counterweight in an otherwise business-dominated group. The CCWIG obviously has less pressing and time sensitive stuff to do near-term than the IANA and accountability groups, but it nevertheless can be a useful platform for info sharing on developments in the wider IG ‘ecoystem’ of relevance to ICANN, and as needed, the coordination of community statements and such, as we did for the NETmundial. Having a defined community mechanism for interfacing with the ‘ecoystem’ rather than leaving this entirely to staff will be a good thing if we can get cooperation. The discussion in LA speaks to these and related points, https://community.icann.org/display/CPMMB/CCWG+IG+F2F+Session+at+ICANN51+in+Los+Angeles <https://community.icann.org/display/CPMMB/CCWG+IG+F2F+Session+at+ICANN51+in+Los+Angeles>

Going forward, irrespective of the formal ‘membership’ that’d be relevant in consensus calls etc, there’s plenty of room for observers, participants, whatever we’re calling them in this context. So I hope that others here who are interested in the interfaces between ICANN and the wider IG environment will get involved. All the materials for the CCWG, including meeting transcripts, are on the Confluence wiki under the outdated label, ICANN Community Preparation for the Multistakeholder Meeting in Brazil https://community.icann.org/display/CPMMB/ICANN+Community+Preparation+for+the+Multistakeholder+Meeting+in+Brazil+Home <https://community.icann.org/display/CPMMB/ICANN+Community+Preparation+for+the+Multistakeholder+Meeting+in+Brazil+Home>

I will write to the CWG suggesting staff update the framing and get us set up for people to join when the charter is declared fully approved etc.

Best,

Bill

PS: Sonigitu, no worries, Bill is the shortened familiar for William. I use the latter for ‘official’ listing purposes like publishing and conference programs and the former everywhere else, including here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_(name) <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_(name)>
