Thank you everyone for this warm welcome. I'm honored at this opportunity to work with all of you and look forward to many productive interactions with all of you. My name is Michael Romo and I'm from Los Angeles, California. Judging from the responses so far my expertise is different from what I've seen. I've been an educator for the past 27 years. For the last 16 of those years I've been heavily involved in educational policy issues at the national, statewide and local level. In addition, I've been an advocate for educators and have represented teachers in contract/labor negotiations. I was the director of the United Teachers Los Angeles Helen Bernstein Professional Development Center for 7 years. In this capacity I interacted with national, state, local and university colleagues to provide courses in educational theory, human rights and labor relations to over 40,000 teachers in the Los Angeles area. I'm am a strong proponent of human rights and civil liberties and have an interest in the role of the internet in these two areas.
