SUMMARY


This week; ICANN 56 took place in Helsinki where the Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) signed the Service Level Agreement (SLA) for the IANA Numbering Services. Also, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Supplemental Agreement with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has been finalised for the performance of the protocol parameters functions while in the U.S two republican lawmakers raised concerns about the transition viability in a letter addressed to the NTIA. In addition, ICANN publishes Verisign .COM extention and Root Zone Management Agreement.
At the United Nations, Human Rights Council agreed by consensus a resolution supporting human rights online that condemns internet shutdowns and renews 2012 and 2014 resolutions. China is reportedly moving forward towards implementing a controversial cybersecurity law that could have significant implications for foreign business. On cyberpolitics, Brexit has been viewed by some commentators as a protest vote against the globalisation paradigm that can directly affect the Internet.
