I think we should come up with a draft communication proposal out  of which the community can discuss and contribute to improving it.

Hi,

I think we are talking a two step plan here:

First, Intra-Council and Council-member communications

Second, communication plan for whole NCSG including various aspects such as best practices in using mailing lists, helping newcomers get involved, sharing documentation, etc....

One without the other is meaningless

Yours

Klaus

Excellent. The narrower focus on Intra-Council and Council-member communications seems best to me. Welcome to Wisdom's participation.

+1 Stéphanie and thanks Milton for your support.
My suggestion is this group will aim to address communication issues between councilors and between Councilors and NCSG members. Then, we have to define à communication plan for whole NCSG including various aspects such as best practices in using mailing lists, helping newcomers get involved, sharing documentation, etc....

WE need both, Milton....but I had suggested the group to work through item two.  I had said in the call ( you might not have been there for that part) that we should face facts.....there is a breakdown in council coordination, we are not talking to each other regularly and we don't know who is doing what.  Not good.  No point in putting a sunny face on it. So we need to work on this, if we intend to be productive in the near future.  And there is certainly a lot of work on our shoulders.

Well, this sounds good! We have a useful
Idea for a Working Group and some volunteers.
Thanks, Stephanie, for initiating it and to Mamadou for getting involved.

Let me ask: is this WG about the whole gamut of
communication within the NCSG, or is it just about communication to, from and amongst Council members?

Thanks Joan for joining.
Communication issues is surrounding all organisations and still be a big managerial problem. We need efforts from all to address them as we do not need  to wait informations always come to us, we have sometimes to search, find and share. Also, we still have lots of informations on ICANN going on and we need briefs and summaries which can help understand main issues and items.

In the spirit of following up on the excellent conversation which we started before the meeting I have a few followup proposals:

1.  In future, I think it would be useful if we discussed the candidates meeting at the policy meeting prior to the call and ask members for questions.  I think the agenda should go to the candidates beforehand so they can prepare, and so that members can think about the questions themselves.

2.  I raised some difficult issues.  I think we should strike a working group to discuss how to get beyond some communications breakdowns among members.

3.  I will formally propose at the next PC meeting (which is next week, correct?) that we initiate the one page reporting from council meetings, and that we have a volunteer reporter to follow the next GNSO council meeting.  I propose we tag David with writing the report, he is leaving soon so we better get some work out of him before he goes.

Kind regards

Stephanie Perrin
