It is a great plan, well done Anriette and Divina. A word of caution, though, which I am sure you both are familiar with. Universities typically do not encourage to "take action". Studying something can be as detached from said phenomenon in real life, as not knowing about it at all. While including IG (and media literacy) in school curricula is absolutely necessary (and urgent) to contribute to create citizens equipped to participate in society, this does not necessary help this community of advocates. But it is yet another step in the right direction.. ________________________________________ Da: NCSG-Discuss <[log in to unmask]> per conto di Alagie Ceesay <[log in to unmask]> Inviato: sabato 10 settembre 2016 19.18.29 A: [log in to unmask] Oggetto: Re: IG & Universities I totally agree with Ms Anriette on this. Encouraging Universities to consider IG in their curriculums will go a long way in enhancing participation and awareness among students (NexGens) as well as researchers. As a partime lecturer in Internet Technologies, I've already found this working and of interest to students in my country. So, +1 Anriette. And yes, it is a real gap. Even though there is an impressive and growing body of research on some aspects of the internet in Africa. I have just spent 3 days at CPR South which was preceded by the CPR South Young Scholars Programme http://www.cprsouth.org/cprsouth-2016-young-scholars-programme/ There is some really impressive research being done in Africa on ICT use, cost, coverage, etc. and how policy and regulation interact with all these.
