SUMMARY

This week; G7, The group of seven industrial powers (Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States) announce an agreement on guidelines aimed at protecting global financial sector from cyberattacks. The goal of the guidelines are to get firms and regulators across the world to approach risks the same way.
On data protection; a global survey  reveals companies lack of awareness about the European Union's new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) slated for May 2018: 97% of companies say they have no plan in place to prepare for its enactment.
On infrastructure; Google and Facebook have teamed up to build an 8,000-mile undersea internet cable between Los Angeles and Hong Kong, the longest and fastest internet cable across the Pacific.

On domain name; ICANN has published findings of its Phase II Assessment of the Competitive Effects Associated with the New gTLD Program. According to ICANN, the study explores whether the New gTLD Program has affected competition in the domain name marketplace. As for event, we note African School of Internet Governance in Durban.
