Also, the European Parliament’s Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee on March 21 approved new powers for national authorities to check whether e-commerce websites geo-block consumers, track down rogue traders and order that websites hosting scams be shut down. China's e-commerce giant Alibaba group on Wednesday announced a plan to set up an e-commerce hub in Malaysia encompassing logistics, cloud-computing and e-financial service to boost trade and e-commerce in the region. In addition, Amazon.com Inc. has agreed in principle to buy Dubai-based Internet retailer Souq.com, one of the best-known names in the Middle East’s online shopping market. In Africa, The Internet Society announced that it will hold the first ever Africa Regional Internet and Development Dialogue from 8-9 May 2017 in Kigali, Rwanda, in partnership with UNESCO and Republic of Rwanda.

On data protection, social media companies Facebook Inc, Alphabet Inc and Twitter Inc will have to amend their terms of service for European users within a month or face the risk of fines, a European Commission official said on Friday.
