In a speech today in an obscure venue (the US Wireless Communications
Association), Assistant Secretary of Commerce Michael Gallagher has
repudiated - in advance - the entire WGIG process, even before its
report was released.

In a speech setting out "U.S. principles on the Internet's Domain
Name and Addressing System," Gallagher stated that the U.S. Government
will "maintain its historic role in authorizing changes or modifications
to the authoritative root zone file."
