SUMMARY

This week, Internet Privacy and surveillance on headlines as The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to privacy has denounced current world governments’ surveillance legislation, calling for respect for citizens’ rights to privacy. Furthemore, according to Wikileaks, the CIA has been attacking and controlling operating systems such as Windows, Android, iOS, OSX, Linux on smartphones and smart television sets. On cyberpolitics, The Chinese government released its Strategy on International Cooperation in Cyberspace. The Strategy sets out “peace, sovereignty, shared governance and shared benefits” as the four basic principles guiding China’s participation in international cooperation. On domain Name, African Union launches dotafrica allowing Africa its own digtal identity. In Europe, a new World Bank report says gap between top digital countries and lower-performing countries is still too wide. On Internet shutdown, Russia says its negotiations with LinkedIn over complying with local laws have fallen through, leaving the social network the first to be banned under a law targeting foreign internet companies while "anlophone Cameroon marks 50 days without internet". On net neutrality, More than 170 groups sent a letter Tuesday to FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, as well as Sens. John Thune and Bill Nelson, urging them to maintain the principles of net neutrality put in place in 2015 in United States.
