Alain - thanks for raising this, and for your helpful replies Avri. I think
it adds new meaning to "vote early vote often" :)

Subject: Fwd: [NCSG-Discuss] Elections - Voting closes on 17 October

Hi, sorry I forgot to copy our list.... There was also a typo - I forgot a
no! BTW, I did not say "undemocratic" but "an interesting voting
practice"... Anyway, as this is an ICANN voting platform, I was not
criticizing Avri... the feature just strikes me as odd and not often used in
ballots, for the little I know. We do not use it in GKP Foundation voting
and we do not use it in Canada at municipal, provincial and federal
elections. Of course one can spoil their paper ballots in many ways...so I
suppose none of the above is a way of doing this electronically... so maybe
in the digital age, this is a good practice...

Dear Avri,

Let me be clearer. I was not (repeat not) refering to the questions, which I
think were great!... but to your decision not to vote for those candidates
that did not answer all questions, and since I did not answer the last 3
questions, I presumed you would not vote for me. That's what I meant.

Dear Alan,

I have no understanding of what you mean by the questions not favoring your
vote count. Can you explain that? I certainly had no thought that any of
the questions being unfair to any of the candidates.

As for the ability to re-vote, I am sorry if it strikes you as undemocratic,
again I do not understand that, but as with everything I have done, you can
all do it differently next time. I think the ability to fix one's vote
during the voting period is not in any way undemocratic. Even if it is not
Canada's practice.

cheers,

avri

candidates, from an electoral viewpoint, for me to answer the last 3
questions during the voting period, specially that people can change their
votes at will up to the last minute... quite an interesting voting practice,
which I have never heard of before! (...and we vote often in Canada! :o)

to try and make sure that people knew the positions of the people they were
considering for g-council and chair. Answering them or not was completely
up to the candidates themselves. I was hoping that a far ranging and
detailed, but polite, debate would ensue among the members on these and
other issues.

you send them to the list. As a member of the NCSG community, I for one
would like to read them. I know that for myself personally, I decided I
would not vote for anyone who did not answer the questions. Also as I
reminded people, one can re-vote as often as they like before the ballot
closes on 17 October at 2359 UTC-11 - with only the last vote counting.
Just go to the web site <http://tally.icann.org/cgi/tally?v=797e074f4e7>
and use the BALLOT NUMBER and PASSWORD incuded in the ballots.

guess that for NCSG 47% of active participants voting is pretty good
especially since there has been no nagging yet. Since there is not
threshold on elections, it does not really matter how many people vote, but
it will be unfortunate if fewer than 50% of the 'active' members actually
vote.

Apologies also for not answering questions 5 to 7... I had planned my
responses but will refrain of course. Also, I just voted.
